December 8th, 2021 – Rescue Hearing Inc. (RHI), a leader in innovative gene therapies for hearing loss, is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Athanasia Warnecke, MD, PhD, to its Scientific Advisory Board. A renowned physician-scientist and senior researcher at Hannover Medical School, Dr. Warnecke brings unparalleled expertise in inner ear regeneration, neuroprotection, and translational therapies to accelerate RHI’s mission of delivering curative treatments.

A Scientific Leader Joining Forces with Rescue Hearing

Dr. Warnecke’s trailblazing work at her lab, “Regeneration and Protection of the Inner Ear,” has yielded transformative advances, including:

  • First-in-human applications of MSC-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) for cochlear repair.
  • Biohybrid cochlear implants to improve auditory outcomes.
  • Optogenetic techniques to enhance neuron survival—complementing gene therapy approaches.

Her dual role as a surgeon and translational researcher bridges the gap between bench and bedside, aligning perfectly with RHI’s focus on clinical-stage gene therapies.

Accelerating Therapeutic Development

With deep regulatory experience, including clinical trial submissions to the Paul Ehrlich-Institut (Germany’s FDA equivalent), Dr. Warnecke will be instrumental in advancing RHI’s pipeline toward commercialization. Her collaborations with academia and industry underscore RHI’s strategy to fast-track therapies for genetic and acquired hearing loss.

“Dr. Warnecke’s insights are invaluable as we progress toward clinical trials,” said Jim Ayala, CEO/Founder of Rescue Hearing Inc. “Her passion for restoring hearing mirrors our commitment to turning science into real-world solutions.”

A Shared Vision for the Future

With 1.5 billion people globally affected by hearing loss, RHI and Dr. Warnecke’s partnership underscores a bold step toward restorative therapies. Investors and collaborators are invited to join this critical mission.
